How to buy safely
Most deals on AUTU.lt go smoothly. These six steps help you avoid the most costly mistakes — hidden damage, a rolled-back odometer, and upfront payments to scammers.

Inspect the car in person and in daylight
Meet the seller at their home address or a trading site, not an empty roadside lot. Bring a companion. Avoid rushed "now or never" deals.

Check the history by VIN
Compare the VIN on the body, under the windshield, and in the documents. Order a history report — it shows mileage over time, registered damage, and the number of owners.

Take it to an independent garage
A 150–200 km diagnostic check at a garage pays for itself. Check the suspension, alignment, fault codes, clutch, and paint thickness — a respray points to repaired damage.

Never pay a deposit remotely
No "reservation" transfers, gift cards, or crypto for a car you haven't inspected. Only pay once you've seen the vehicle and its documents.

Recognize the signs of a scam
A price well below market, a seller who's "abroad", an offer to ship via a courier, avoiding phone calls, pressure to pay quickly. Even one red flag — walk away.

Sign a sale-purchase agreement in two copies, re-register the car within 5 working days, and get insurance before you drive off.
